wave was created by forcing a truncated file to be created via a random-access-memory error within a digital image that consisted of pure noise. truncation represents an underlying sample of data that has been algorithmically scrambled in some way. the algorithm, or logical procedure, makes itself visible as it echos through the image, manipulating the pixel data in the same manner that a wave in the ocean manipulates each molecule of water.

the algorithmic manipulation acts as both form & content, constructing form and meaning within the chaotic data. this is in contrast to typical data-moshing techniques which usually intend to strip an image of its meaning or turn information to noise.

in this act i intended to make present the ways in which digital forms are governed by natural forces like entropy and emergence. all things are in a state of constant flux where energy and information are forever flowing throughout the natural world giving rise to and themselves undergoing major transformations with the passage of time.

wave could also be thought of as a depiction of an infinite expanse empty of independent entities and forces, all things coexisting in one fluid field.
