Wave Lightjet print on fujicrystal archive paper, glass 36 x 48 in 2011 Wave was created by forcing a truncated file to be created via a random-access-memory error within a digital image originally consisting of pure noise. Truncation typically represents an underlying sample of data that has been algorithmically scrambled in some way. The algorithm makes itself visible as it echos through the image, manipulating the pixel data in the same manner that a wave in the ocean manipulates each molecule of water. Wave is the result of a conversion of noise-to-information which is in contrast to typical data-mashing techniques that strip images of their meaning and turn information to noise. Digital forms are governed by natural forces like entropy and emergence. All things are in a state of constant flux where energy and information are forever flowing throughout the natural world giving rise to, and themselves undergoing, major transformations with the passage of time. Wave is a digital infinite expanse empty of independent entities and forces, all things coexisting in one fluid field. Exhibition photos from "You Only Live Twice" at Kunsthalle New |
