gateway
installation as a part of "MIRRORRIM" at redline, 2009 digital projection, enchanted materials enchanted objects and psudo-occult symbols used an attempt to open a portal to a virtual, parallel reality. the video component is of footage from highway i-25 in colorado that was computer manipulated to be rotationally symmetric. emergent (rather than generated) patterns that follow sacred geometric laws present a doorway to a distant and familiar world. gateway was motivated by a relationship between virtual reality and its user. wanting to enter into virtual reality but being held back by your physical body. gateway provides the viewer a lucid pulling feeling when standing in front of it. one temporarily enters a state of belief, as if it may truly be a portal to another world. as glimpses of identifiable imagery become clear within the video you are reminded of your physical self and your inability to enter the virtual. the altarpiece on the floor activates the gateway and binds it to our reality while also acting as a physical barrier holding you back from entering the gateway. |
